Refuge

What you may be worried about -

  • Having to leave your home and your possessions to go somewhere strange.
  • Taking your children out of their familiar surroundings, away from their friends and the things they care about.
  • Having to ‘live’ with other women who you don’t know.
  • Being found by your abuser.
  • What happens once you’re in a refuge.

“…it was very difficult to speak to someone  that could understand my language and culture, and my support worker has helped me so much that I can really express myself and receive the best possible  support…”

“I think it was the best service and was really safe.”

How can BSWA help me?
You can call the Helpline on 0800 0732 606 Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.00pm to talk about how abuse is affecting you and your children, and to find out more about what we can offer.

If you click on the project name, it will take you to a page with more information about the project.

Refuge
If you are staying in one of our refuges, our Refuge Project Workers will assist you to apply for the benefits you’re entitled to, and find out information about work, education and training.

You may also be offered a place in one of the other refuges in Birmingham, or other areas. All refuges will have workers who will support you during your stay and help you when you are ready to leave.
