What is Counselling?
Counselling is often called “talking therapy”. Your counsellor at The Mayfield Centre will encourage you to explore what has happened to you and enable you to make sense of your experiences that are causing you concern or distress.
What can Counselling do for me?
All counselling sessions are with the same counsellor and last for 50 minutes each week. We will set the same time aside specifically for you. This could be during the day Monday to Friday or early evening on a Monday or Thursday.
Confidentiality will be discussed at your assessment and we do have a policy that you can look at.
How do I access Counselling?
Please call the Mayfield Centre directly on 0121 685 8551. We ask you to telephone us yourself – if this is difficult we encourage you to get someone to assist you. We will then arrange for you to book a counselling assessment.
Following a counselling assessment, if counselling at The Mayfield Centre is appropriate for your needs, you will be offered a counselling contract up to a maximum of 26 sessions.
Unfortunately, due to demand, we do operate a waiting list for counselling – this could be up to around three months.
At this point you will be informed of your position on the waiting list and be given regular updates. We aim to start seeing women as soon as possible, usually within three months, after assessment.
If counselling, is not right for you, we will make suggestions about other services at BSWA or elsewhere.
