Volunteering

Volunteers are key to the services we offer at Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid and we value their commitment, skills and enthusiasm. A volunteer is a person who gives some time freely and by choice, without pay, for the benefit of others in the community and the individual.

Opportunities for volunteers at BSWA include:

  • Helpline/ Refuge Referral service
  • Administration

For information on Volunteer Counselling, please see the Counselling page.

Due to the nature of the services provided by BSWA, volunteers should have the necessary skills, experience, abilities and attitudes to sustain the high quality of service. Potential volunteers are invited to an Information Day to discuss the needs and opportunities, and will then fill out an application form if they wish. As with job applications, two references are required (preferably to include a present or recent employer/ college tutor – neither reference may be from the applicant’s relative).

Following this, potential volunteers will be invited to join an Induction Programme and will then be invited to attend an interview to become a BSWA volunteer. If successful, further, more specialised training can be arranged for the volunteer.

All volunteers are offered support and supervision through the volunteer coordinator. BSWA has a commitment to volunteers, which you can read here.
